The Cardinia Environment Coalition Inc (CEC) was formed in 1997 with the following purposes:
The CEC represents over 25 local Landcare and Friends groups in the Casey, Cardinia and Baw Baw municipalities. The committee is made up of representatives from these groups. The following diagram demonstrates the 6 major port folio areas of the CEC:
The Western Port Catchment Landcare Network- Central Region comprises twelve local Landcare groups and is part of the CEC. Since 2002 it has received over $2.0 million in grants to undertake a range of projects including:
In 2005, the State Government of Victoria appointed the CEC as the committee of management for the Beaconsfield Nature Conservation Reserve (formerly the Beaconsfield Reservoir). This 170 ha reserve will be managed for its biodiversity values. Five smaller Crown Land reserve, including Bandicoot Corner at Bayles are also managed by the CEC.
In 2004, the CEC established an indigenous nursery to supply Landcare groups and properties with plants.
In 2007 we established Yanggai Ecological Services Pty Ltd which is a social enterprise fully owned and operated by the Cardinia Environment Coalition Inc (CEC) All profits from Yanggai Ecological Services Pty Ltd are returned to the CEC to further its work. Yanggai Ecological Services offers a broad range of environmental and natural resource management services to individuals, local government and private enterprise.
